When We Celebrate with Parents

WHEN WE CELEBRATE WITH PARENTS

One of our greatest joys at RE:SOUL is when we get to celebrate the successes and growth of a teen.

Sometimes it looks like the encouragement of a coach, while other times it’s the collective cheers of the crowd.  However, the cheers are always best when they are joined by the parents … because every child craves the applause of their parents.  Together, we celebrate both the big steps and the small … because everyone knows that small steps lead to big change.

Today we’d like to share with you the story of a teen who took one small step, quite literally the step of walking through our door.  When anxiety told them, “You can’t do it!” they did it anyway!

“As a parent it’s difficult to watch your child struggle with anxiety. One of the hardest things for Carly is social situations so she would avoid anything that involved groups of people. We tried many different programs and groups that were specific to assisting with anxiety but still hadn’t found anything that helped.  Mike had talked to me about RE:SOUL and that Breanna would be someone that could connect with her. It took weeks for me to even get Carly to go look at RE:SOUL. The first time she went to a drop-in we sat in the parking lot for 15 mins before she finally agreed to go inside. It was supposed to be only a half hour visit and later she texted me to say she wanted to stay. That was the day that things began to change for Carly. Each week she stayed a little longer at RE:SOUL and even started to talk to a few people. We’ve noticed a change in the way she approaches group settings at school and her team sports. Teachers say she is more confident and participates in class. We are incredibly lucky to have met such amazing people and so thankful for the care and patience that Breanna has given. We are looking forward to all the great things Carly will accomplish thanks to RE:SOUL.”

– Parent

We are so excited to celebrate with this parent the breakthrough of their daughter and is yet another reason of why we do what we do. As National Youth Week comes to an end, we invite you to celebrate the lives of youth. Each one of them has a journey, each one of them have overcome their own challenges. They all have unique gifts, talents, and each one of them has a story that is uniquely theirs!

We invite you to celebrate with us by investing in today’s youth.

Gratefully yours,
Mike Burns
